What is IPL?

If you're bothered by the appearance of your skin due to dark spots or sun damage, Seven Heart Medspa can perform a digital skin analysis at our Las Vegas, NV office to see if you qualify for IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy. An IPL photofacial is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin for adults with hyperpigmentation issues on their neck and face. A photofacial is a noninvasive procedure that can be highly effective and produce smooth, radiant outcomes. Our team of highly skilled aesthetic specialists utilizes a technology that radiates intense wavelengths of light energy to raise the temperature of the skin cells, promoting the natural healing process and increasing collagen production. As the added nutrients take effect, you should begin to see a healthier layer with an improved tone and fewer dark spots and irregularities.

A photofacial reaches the deeper layers of your skin to correct many complexion concerns (especially brown lesions and sun spots) with little or no needed recovery period afterward. The best candidates for IPL treatments at Seven Heart Medspa could have a combination of problems with their skin, including sun damage, rosacea, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, visible pores, redness, freckles, melasma, sun and age spots, or spider veins. A member of our team will examine your complexion and perform a skin analysis using the Image Pro 3D® to determine if you are a candidate for IPL during your initial consultation.

A photofacial at our Las Vegas, NV office is completed in about 20 – 30 minutes in one of our private treatment rooms. To start the procedure, your technician will clean and dry your skin before covering your eyes with goggles. The IPL photofacial is administered using a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting pulses of light energy. While most patients will have some discomfort throughout the IPL photofacial, it is usually bearable for the short treatment time.

There is no recovery period needed after an IPL treatment, but you may notice that your complexion is a little swollen and pink. This will subside naturally in several hours and can be masked with cosmetics. Our team at Seven Heart Medspa advises patients to use a cream on the skin's surface to minimize any irritation and speed healing. It also helps to take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication to ease swelling. Over the course of 2 – 5 days, the irregularities under the skin will rise to the surface skin layers and then start to flake away. It is necessary to keep your skin protected with sunscreen at all times after an IPL photofacial treatment and to not pick at the flaking skin. While you will notice some impressive improvements after your first treatment, your complexion will achieve its best results after several IPL sessions. We typically suggest that patients receive 3 – 6 sessions done about a month apart at our office for comprehensive outcomes.

How much does IPL cost?
Your complexion issues are unique, so the cost of IPL treatments will depend on your concerns. Seven Heart Medspa offers specials on treatments like IPL often and we accept most payment methods. During your initial consultation, your technician can help estimate costs and determine how many sessions are needed to fit your needs and goals.

How quick are the results from IPL?
Some results can be seen following your session, but optimal results are visible a month after your last treatment. It is normal for you to respond differently to every treatment session. You should notice gradual improvements of blotchiness, redness, and spots (age, brown, and sun).

What are the possible side effects of IPL?
Most patients experience mild side effects like temporary swelling, redness, bruising, blisters, or crusting. This should subside in a few days. Your skin will be sun sensitive and you should keep in mind that damaging UV rays will negatively affect your results. We also recommend using sunscreen to prevent problems like spots and redness.

Do I need to prep for IPL?
Before getting IPL, patients are usually asked to skip self-tanners and excessive sun for at least 2 – 4 weeks before their procedure. You might need to stop using certain medications and topical creams, like Retin-A a few days before each appointment, and we may recommend taking pain relievers for one week before the appointment to decrease your risk of bruising. You should also protect the treated areas with sunscreen since your skin will be extra sensitive.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?
Multiple IPL sessions are better to produce gradual, natural-looking improvements to the appearance of your skin. Every session will fade surface irregularities and spots. A series of treatments also allow for longer-lasting results.
